The Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s assistance in solving the murders of Don and Reda Rentz.
Sheriff Adrian Garcia, HCSO homicide invesitigators and Crime Stoppers were joined by the couples two daughters, Judith Crane and Susan Halpin, at a press conference on March 20 announcing a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the murder or murders.
“I dare not even say that I can imagine or understand this family’s pain,” Garcia said. “Most of us were brought up to help and respect our elders – not harm them.”
On Saturday, March 7, Don and Reda Rentz were discovered brutally murdered in their home, located in the 6700 block of Pacific Crest Court, in the Kings River Village subdivision, in northeast Harris County.
Don, 83, and Reda, 80, were retired and lived alone. They were last known to be alive on March 6.
A neighbor conducted a welfare check on the couple at the request of the Rentz’s children, who had not heard from their parents for several days.
The couple died as the result of blunt force trauma with robbery being the apparent motive for their murders.
Judith Crane, the oldest daughter of murdered couple, pleaded with the public for help in getting the person or persons involved off the streets.
“We don’t want other families to go through this,” she said.
Don and Reda Rentz were born in Houston and were married for almost 60 years. They lived in the Kings River Village subdivision for 13 years.
Don was a Navy veteran and retired from A. G. Edwards, after being a stock broker for over 30 years. Reda was an active member of Second Baptist Church and a volunteer at the Mission Northeast, helping those who are less fortunate.
Anyone with information regarding the murders is urged call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS or the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
