The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that for the first time since enforcing drinking-and-driving laws, there were no alcohol-related traffic accidents and no DWI arrests made during New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
“This is great news,” said Sheriff Adrian Garcia. “I want to thank the citizens of Harris County for doing their part in making this past New Year holiday one of the safest ever on our roadways. Let’s keep it up!”
Since the HCSO’s anti DWI initiative began during the Christmas week, only two people have been arrested for driving while intoxicated.
HCSO deputies will continue to be out enforcing the law in an effort to prevent alcohol and/or drug-related traffic accidents, according to HCSO.
