Double-homicide on northwest side leaves child dead

Details On Thursday, Jan. 1, at approximately 12:50 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting at 2530 Bammelwood Drive. Upon their arrival they learned that an unknown suspect had shot and killed 12-year-old Deunte Cooks. Deputies learned there was a second victim, identified as 23-year-old Dashawn Norwood, who was shot multiple times at the residence and fled the scene to a nearby neighbors house for help. A third victim identified as Rogerious Grant had also received a grazing gunshot wound. Both Grant and Norwood were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Investigators are searching for a person of interest known only as “Chirp”, who might be able to help investigators solve this crime.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating this offense. Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of “Chirp” or this offense is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (713) 274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS (8477).
