Officer opens fire on robbery suspect in Greenspoint

Charges have been filed against a robbery suspect wounded in a shooting incident at 400 North Sam Houston Parkway about 10 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 15).
The suspect, Jerome Anthony Bryant, 20, is charged with assault against a public servant in the 174th State District Court. Bryant suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. A photo of Bryant is not available at this time.
Officer A. Pizana, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident. Officer Pizana, assigned to the North Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in July 2006.
“Officers responded to a report of an aggravated robbery of an elderly man at 225 Aldine Bender,” HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers L. Bailey and X. Avila reported. “Officer Pizana, after receiving a description of the suspect, began to canvass the area looking for the suspect. Officer Pizana was able to locate the suspect, who then fled on foot into a parking garage. The officer made contact with the suspect, who then turned and raised a gun in the direction of the officer. Officer Pizana, in fear for his safety, discharged his duty weapon. The suspect then jumped from the second floor of the parking garage and was apprehended by the officer on the ground below. The suspect was then transported to Ben Taub General Hospital for his injuries.”
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
