Security guard shoots, kills robbery suspect on North Shepherd

The Houston Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a robbery suspect at 7620 North Shepherd about 7:45 a.m. today.
The male suspect, in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
“HPD patrol officers responded to an alarm call at the Bank of America at the above address,” HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Senior Police Officer B. Evans reported. “Two security guards, employed by Dunbar Armored, were in the process of filling ATM machines in the drive-thru area of the bank when a male suspect, armed with a gun, approached in an aggressive manner. The suspect then demanded money at gunpoint. Fearing for his life and that of his co-worker, the security guard discharged his weapon. The suspect was struck and died at the scene. Investigators recovered the suspect’s weapon at the scene.
It has not been determined at this time if other suspects are involved or remain at large.
The investigation is continuing.”
