Houston police homicide investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation into the fatal shooting of a woman at 2400 South Loop West about 6 a.m. last Friday (Dec. 5) and believe the same suspect(s) might be responsible for nine robbery/shooting incidents on the south side of the city since Nov. 16.
One of the victims, Angelina Romero-Alvarez, 50, of Houston, died when she was robbed and shot by an unknown suspect.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Meeler and Senior Police Officer J. Villareal reported:
Ms. Romero-Alvarez was about to get into her vehicle in the parking lot of the Wilcox Apartments when she was approached by an unknown suspect(s). At some point as she stood outside her vehicle, Romero-Alvarez was shot. Witnesses reported seeing an unknown vehicle driving away from the scene.
Investigators learned two other women were robbed and shot the same morning, in less than two hours. About 5:50 a.m., a female, 47, was in an apartment complex parking lot at 10201 Telephone Road when she was shot by an unknown black male suspect seen driving a white, four-door vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Impala. About 7:20 a.m., an elderly woman, 70, was in an apartment complex parking lot at 6922 South Loop East when she was robbed and shot by an unknown black male suspect seen driving in a white sport utility vehicle. Both women suffered non-life-threatening wounds. Investigators believe another such incident at 6922 South Loop East about 3 a.m. on Nov. 29 is also related to the Dec. 5 incidents. In the November incident, a woman, 49, was walking in the apartment complex parking lot when a white four-door vehicle with partial Texas license plates of BZ pulled up alongside her. An unknown black male got out of the passenger seat of the vehicle and robbed and shot the woman.
Video surveillance of suspect vehicles in the two incidents at 6922 South Loop East is posted on the HPD YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZPf-FNvio8
A photo of Ms. Romero-Alvarez is also attached to this news release.
It is believed at least three male suspects are targeting Hispanic females in the early morning hours as they are near their vehicles in apartment complex parking lots. Six of the nine robbery/shooting victims are women.
Anyone with information in these cases is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
