One man is dead and another is on the run after a confrontation at an East End bar led to gunshots early this morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
The victim, 58-year-old Carlos Villegas, of Houston, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub Hospital after suffering at least one gunshot wound in the parking lot of Bone’s Lounge located at 7617 Navigation Boulevard, HPD reported. One of Villegas’ family members also suffered a gunshot wound during the incident but is in stable condition.
Witnesses told police that both victims got into a fight with an unknown male suspect inside the bar. When the men took the fight to the parking lot, the suspect produced a pistol and started shooting.
“Officers were dispatched to a shooting at the Bones Lounge at the above address shortly after midnight. Witnesses reported Mr. Villegas and the suspect got into a physical altercation inside the bar,” HPD Homicide Division Sergeants C. Cegielski and J. Brooks reported. “The fight moved to the parking lot where the suspect produced a pistol and shot both Villegas and a second victim. The second victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The unknown suspect then fled the scene.”
