Importing meth lands Mexican national 11-year prison term


Today, U.S. District Judge Diana Saldana handed Jasso a total of 135 months in federal prison. Not a U.S. citizen, Jasso is expected to face deportation proceedings following his release from prison.LAREDO, Texas ‘ Damian Hesari Mansur Jasso, 26, has been ordered to prison for possession with the intent to distribute a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson. The Mexican citizen pleaded guilty Feb. 10.

On Dec. 11, 2013, Jasso arrived at the Laredo Port of Entry Bridge No. 1 driving a Honda CRV. A Customs and Border Protection (CBP) canine unit conducted an inspection of the vehicle and alerted to the front right wheel well area. Agents removed the air bag access panel and noticed a drip of glue inside the natural void of the compartment. Agents were suspicious and conducted further inspection, leading to the discovery of an aftermarket compartment in the firewall area of the vehicle near the front passenger seat. Six bundles containing a total of 6.26 kilograms of methamphetamine with a 98 percent purity level were found concealed in that aftermarket compartment.

Jasso will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.

The case was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations and CBP. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sanjeev Bhasker is prosecuting.
