||On October 17th, 2014, Jairo Quintanilla was operating a black colored Saturn Vue bearing Texas tag PHV-655 with a front seat passenger. The Saturn was traveling east on the eastbound Frontage Rd. of US 290 at approximately the 21700 block. According to witnesses, the Saturn was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the paved roadway in a construction zone on the frontage road. The Saturn struck a concrete barricade with its front end causing to the vehicle to rotate counter clockwise about its center of mass. The Saturn came to an uncontrolled final resting position on its right side and started to catch on fire. Witnesses were able to assist in extracting the front seat passenger from the vehicle. Quintanilla was not able to be extracted from the Saturn prior to it being fully engulfed in fire. Quintanilla died as a result of being trapped inside of the burning Saturn. The front seat passenger, Mitchell Maerz, was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover. This case is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Division.
