Public Notice: Possible Ebola case at Harris County Jail

An inmate being booked at the Harris County Jail Thursday night was determined through a health screening during intake to have a possible infectious disease, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office revealed tonight in an emergency notice to the public.
The inmate was transported to a hospital by a private ambulance as a precaution for further evaluation, according to HCSO.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the HCSO continues to work the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services and other community partners to take appropriate precautions,” HCSO reported. “All detainees entering the jail facilities undergo routine and proactive screening to protect the health of both detainees and HCSO personnel in accordance with CDC and other public health guidelines.
According to HCSO, operations at the Harris County jail have not been interrupted due to the incident.
