At 6 p.m. TODAY (Thursday, Oct. 9), members of the Houston Police Department’s Air Support Division will introduce 30 Citizens’ Police Academy members to the department’s eyes in the sky. The citizens will see HPD’s fleet of helicopters and observe demonstrations on how Air Support assists HPD officers on the ground.
NOTE: Citizens will not be flying with the officers as part of this course.
The citizens are in the fifth week of a 10-week course in which they learn how HPD officers handle investigations, patrols and dangerous situations.
The Citizens’ Police Academy, in its 25th year (organized in 1989), is designed to give citizens from all walks of life a working knowledge of how HPD operates, and stresses the importance of their involvement in preventing and fighting crime in their neighborhoods.
