The suspect, Dalton Deune Jones (b/m, 26), is charged with capital murder in the 183rd State District Court. A photo of Jones is attached to this news release.
Jones is accused in the death of Alejandro Gonzalez-Alonzo, 43, of the above address.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers L. Bailey and X. Avila reported:
The victim’s son was watching out the window of his apartment, anticipating the arrival of his father from work. As Mr. Gonzalez-Alonzo approached the door of his apartment, Jones attacked him. Jones, in an attempt to rob the victim, placed Gonzalez-Alonzo in a choke hold. The son, who was watching the incident, began to scream and alerted his mother. The victim’s wife then ran outside and began to scream. Jones then released the victim and fled the scene, taking Gonzalez-Alonzo’s cell phone and wallet. Officers and HFD emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported Gonzalez-Alonzo to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
As officers began their investigation, Jones approached security guards and officers and claimed he witnessed the attack. As he was speaking with HPD officers, Jones was identified by a witness as the suspect who had been fighting with the victim, but was wearing different clothes. Investigators discovered the suspect lived in a nearby apartment and were given consent to search the apartment. The clothes and shoes the suspect was wearing during the assault were found in the apartment, with blood, along with the victim’s cell phone. The suspect later admitted to his role in the incident and, upon his direction, the victim’s wallet was found in a trash dumpster, where the suspect had disposed of it.
