HPD Homicide Division Officers K. Daignault and N. Rosenblatt reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a burglary in-progress call at the above address. When officers arrived, they saw the suspect run out of the back door of the residence. Officers then pursued the suspect on foot. Officer Contreras caught up to the suspect about two blocks away from the burglary and gave him repeated verbal commands to stop and show his hands. The suspect ignored all verbal commands, continually reached into his pockets and waistband and produced an object the officer believed was a firearm. Fearing for his life, Officer Contreras discharged his duty weapon and wounded the suspect in the leg. The suspect was then transported to the hospital.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
