Humble Councilmember Aaron resigns to run for mayor

Humble City Council Member, Place 5 and Mayor Pro Tem Merle Aaron has submitted his letter of resignation to the City Secretary. The resignation is effective Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015.

Aaron was first elected the City Council in May 2005 to fill the remaining term of then Council Member Donald McMannes who was elected Mayor that year. Mr. Aaron was re-elected to subsequent terms in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and most recently 2014 – a term which is set to expire in May 2016. Since being elected to the Council Mr. Aaron has actively served on the city’s Beautification Committee and has been named Mayor Pro Tem on several different occasions.
The City Council will hold a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10 and will consider an ordinance calling for a Special Election to fill the vacancy. That Special Election would run concurrently with the General Election to be held on May 9.
Should the City Council call for a Special Election, applications for a place on the ballot to fill the unexpired Place 5 term will be available from the Office of the City Secretary.
Applications and candidate packets may also be downloaded from the city’s website at www.cityofhumble.net/election.html. The first day for filing an application for a place on the Special Election ballot would be Feb. 11, 2015. The last day for filing an application for a place on the Special Election ballot is March 9.
