Details: On January 21, 2015, Officer Patton with the Houston Police Department observed a black Nissan Titan traveling Westbound on Beechnut Street with no headlights on. Officer Patton attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The driver of the Titan was a known 17 year old black male and there was a know 19 year old black male passenger on board as well. The pursuit continued Westbound on Beechnut at high speeds above 80 miles per hour. The Titan ran the red light at Eldridge Parkway and continued West. After coming through that intersection the truck lost control and yawed in a clockwise manner. The vehicle left the roadway on the North side and when it had reached approximately broadside (still traveling Westbound) the left front of the vehicle struck a large masonry sign for the Campanile on Eldridge Apartments. The vehicle rotated clockwise and came to rest on the South side of the sign. The driver was found with no signs of life pinned in the driver’s seat of the truck. The passenger was ejected and was also found with no signs of life on the scene of the crash. Investigation shows the Titan had been stolen in a car jacking a short time before the crash. A shotgun and a pistol were recovered along with the vehicle. The crash portion of this incident is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Division. The Aggravated Robbery portion is being investigated by the Houston Police Department Robbery division.
