A known sex offender who failed to register as such for the past three years and was selling drugs out of his house was arrested in Pasadena today, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Shawn David Hayes, 32, claimed to be living in a home in the 800 block of Easy St. in La Porte when he was really living at 7115 Lance Ave. in Pasadena.

Hayes, who was sentenced in 2002 to five years in prison sexually assaulting a 13 year-old girl, was also found to be living in the home with seven children, only one of them being his.

A surveillance system Hayes set up on the property allowed him to avoid being apprehended by police, according to HCSO.

Deputies reportedly seized several surveillance cameras, weapons, prescription pills (amphetamine) and other drugs.

More charges against Hayes are pending.

Harris County arrest record of Shawn David Hayes.

The law requires adult and juvenile sex offenders to register with the local law enforcement authority of the city they reside in or, if the sex offender does not reside in a city, with the local law enforcement authority of the county they reside in. Registration involves the sex offender providing the local law enforcement authority with information that includes, but is not limited to, the sex offender’s name and address, a color photograph, and the offense the offender was convicted of or adjudicated for. Registered sex offenders are required to periodically report to the local law enforcement authority to verify the accuracy of the registration information and to promptly report certain changes in the information as those changes occur. A sex offender who fails to comply with any registration requirement is subject to felony prosecution. Assisting the HCSO in this arrest were the Pasadena and La Porte Police Departments.
